A Children's Book Review will be held at the state library beginning Tuesday, September 27 through Monday, October 3 from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. (The state library is closed on the weekends.) Preview new titles in picture books and juvenile and young adult fiction and nonfiction. All attendees will receive 1-3 new books following the Review as well as an attendance "freebie."
The CHILIS Fall Conference will be held on Thursday, October 20 from 9 am until 3:00 pm at the Salyards Museum in Conway. Hosted by the Conway Public Library, the conference will feature programs on enriching storytimes with music and puppets, developing parent/teacher collections and programs, and promoting library events and activities. NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE LIBRARY TALKING BOOK SERVICE TO HONOR CENTENARIANS THROUGH 10² TALKING BOOK CLUB
WHAT: The New Hampshire State Library, the New Hampshire State Library Talking Book Service and the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), and the Library of Congress will honor six centenarians of the New Hampshire 10² Talking Book Club at a ceremony Tuesday, September 13th. New Hampshire resident Mary E. Dalton of Danville will be among the newest inductees into the 10² Talking Book Club. (Please see below for a full listing of New Hampshire 10² Talking Book Club Inductees). The club honors New Hampshire residents 100 years of age or older who participate in the Talking Book national reading program administered by the NLS. Nationally, the 10² Talking Book Club will recognize the accomplishments of the 1,600 eligible program members through induction ceremonies in all states in 2005.
NLS provides a free national reading service to people who can no longer read the standard print of a newspaper or even the pages of a large-print book. The program loans members a wide selection of recorded books and magazines, Braille books and magazines, and music scores in Braille and large print. Members of the 10² Talking Book Club will receive first priority for books in high demand as recognition of their accomplishments.
