Cheever, Susan (Bantam Books, 1991) A companion volume to Home before dark in which the author wrote about her father, John Cheever. In this work she writes about her mother's family. Her great-grandfather was Thomas Watson, who along with Alexander Graham Bell worked on the invention of the telephone. Watson built a summer retreat called Treetops, overlooking Newfound Lake in N.H., where several generations of his family spent their summers. |
