Winslow, Richard E., III (Peter E. Randall, 1985) With the advent of WW I, Portsmouth Naval shipyard was selected to build the first navy constructed submarine. From 1914 to 1971, 134 submarines were built at this yard. After WW II, the shipyard began constructing nuclear-powered submarines & became a pioneer in various aspects of submarine research. |
