Individuals new to the appraisal field are not required to obtain apprentice NH credentials, but may need to do so in order to obtain employment. Note that some other states refer to Apprentices as Trainees or Provisional.

Initial and On-going Requirements

Individuals seeking to obtain an Apprentice credential from the Board need only satisfy education requirements; there is no experience or examination requirement.

Apprentices must also work under a Supervising Appraiser. The application to become an Apprentice must include the name and signature of the individual(s) agreeing to be their Supervisor. Apprentices are required to notify the Board office of any changes within seven days. You must return your apprentice license within seven (7) days in the event you cease to have a Supervising Appraiser.

The apprentice shall maintain a log on the forms supplied by the Board. The log will record work performed by the apprentice toward the fulfillment of the experience requirement for licensure or certification. The log must be signed monthly by the apprentice's Supervisor.

Apprentices may have more than one Supervisor, but must maintain separate monthly logs for work prepared under each Supervisor.

As of January 1, 2008, Supervisors can not supervise more than three apprentices at a time.

As of January 1, 2008, Supervisors must be either Certified Residential or Certified General appraisers in good standing. In addition, as of August 17, 2009, Supervisors must have been certified by the State of New Hampshire for at least two years.

Renewal Requirements

Apprentice credentials must be renewed annually (all other categories are renewed bi-annually).

Renewal applications must include copies of your monthly experience logs signed by your supervisor. The submitted logs should cover the time since your last renewal, or, if this is your first renewal, since you received your apprentice credential.

Renewal applications must also include one full, signed copy of an appraisal listed on your experience log.
