What is the Job and Information Center? |
| A. |
The Job and Information Center is designed to provide individuals with a variety of services in a self service environment. Employment opportunities are available through on-line computers, job bulletin boards and help wanted ads from local newspapers. These One-Stop Career Centers provide the user with PCs for self-directed work search activities including resume formats, cover letters and software for career exploration. The Centers bring information, resources and tools to the public and employers through a collaboration between partner agencies which include Dept. of Health and Human Services, CAP Agency, Dept. of Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, NH Community Technical College System and the Senior Community Services Employment Program. The center is staffed with a coordinator to assist customers with the Internet and answer questions. Some of the additional services available at no charge are various workshops, employment-related videos, a resource library, typewriter, fax machine, copy machine and telephones for local calls. All Job and Information Centers have TTY access. |

What is NH WORKS? |

NH WORKS is the name of the One-Stop System. It is a partnership of "One-Stop" agencies working together to bring you information, resources and services about employment, the labor market, training, and supportive services all in one place. The services are available within the NH WORKS Job & Information Centers: located within the 13 NH Employment Security offices, libraries, Vocational Rehabilitation, the NH Community Technical College System, and Community Action offices throughout the state.
NH WORKS is a Web site full of workforce and supportive service information and links to other sites. It’s free services, resources, tools and information to help you get back to work, change jobs, find a better job, or enter the labor market for the first time by assisting you with information and services that will help you remove barriers to employment. How do I find out about employment opportunities? |

You may visit your New Hampshire Employment Security local office in person or through this web site's Job Seeker page. The Resource Center provides job seekers with computer access to jobs throughout the state and the nation. In addition, most local offices have jobs posted on bulletin boards or in binders. Help wanted ads from local newspapers are also displayed in each office. Some offices also provide opportunities to meet with employers and armed forces recruiters in the local office. |

No, employment services are available to all individuals that have a legal right to accept work in the U.S. |

Can I prepare a resume in your office? |

Yes, workshops are available for technical assistance on preparing resumes and cover letters. Individuals may use a PC with resume software to prepare resumes and cover letters. Videos and resume books also provide a starting point for people who need assistance in composing their resumes. |

Are there other Employment Services available? |

Yes, we provide job search workshops, employment counseling, aptitude and skills testing, and career exploration tools. You may contact the Resource Center Coordinator for information on other special programs. In addition, certain staff members are dedicated to providing one-on-one service to applicants eligible for special programs. Some of these programs include veterans, recipients of Unemployment Compensation, Transitional Assistance for Needy Families(TANF) and Food Stamps. |

Workshops provide information on such topics as: job search techniques, resume preparation and interviewing skills. Contact your local office for schedules and other workshops that may be offered in your area. |

Reference books, videos, career projections, employer profiles, newspaper help wanted ads and labor market information are all available in the Resource Center library.In addition, our online Job Match System will match applicants with employer job listings using skills, job requirements and other related data. Also, the center has a calendar of employers doing onsite recruiting. |

How does O*NET work as a Career Selection tool? |

O*NET helps users to analyze and sort through vast amounts of important information about occupations, educational institutions, programs of study and financial aid sources. It can easily show users the connection between an occupation, the programs of study that lead to that occupation and which institutions offer those programs. |

How often are the jobs updated? |
| A. |
Jobs are added, updated and deleted on a daily basis (Monday thru Friday) as information is received from employers. |

What services are available for Veterans? |

The Local Veterans' Employment Representative (LVER) and the Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program (DVOP) representative are available to provide one-on-one service to Veterans and referrals to a variety of supportive services. These services include referrals to the State Veterans Council; the Veterans Administration/Vocational Rehabilitation Division; the Veterans Employment and Training Service and other Veteran service organizations. |

What training opportunities are available? |

An eligible individual may be referred to training through various agencies. Some of these agencies include CAP Agencies, Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Dept of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and the Veterans Administration (VA). |

What other types of Supportive Services are available? |

NHES networks with other agencies on an ongoing basis to provide information and assistance for selective placement; to assist people with disabilities; training programs; veterans; and placement of affirmative action candidates. We coordinate services with the CAP Agencies, Dept of Health and Human Services, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, Vocational Rehabilitation, Job Corps, local high schools and adult education services and other state agencies. In this manner, we employ the one-stop concept to provide efficient, timely, courteous service to meet the needs of employers and the public. |
