Description

Provide individual, marital, and family counseling to adults and children. Help clients identify personal and interactive problems to achieve personal, marital, and family development and adjustment.

Licensure Requirements

  • Master's degree or Doctorate in marriage and family therapy from an accredited program
  • Pass national exam of the Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards
  • Complete a minimum of two years post-master's experience in a mental health counseling setting, including a minimum of 1,000 hours of practice of marriage and family therapy under an approved AAMFT supervisor and 200 hours of face-to-face supervision by an approved AAMFT supervisor

Examination

  • Written examination required—National Examination in Marital and Family Therapy of the Association of Marital and Family Regulatory Boards and essay exam

Continuing Education

  • Forty continuing education hours (CEUs) every two years, and 20 hours of collaboration per year

Application review $150.00
Second year license fee (submitted with application review fee) $135.00
Biennial renewal $270.00
Renewal for dual license $350.00
Inactive license (one year) $67.50
Reinstatement or reactivation $300.00

Reciprocity:  Not permitted—applicants must meet all requirements

Residence/Citizenship:  Neither New Hampshire residency nor US citizenship is required
