FIREFIGHTER

Description

Control and extinguish fires, protect life and property, and maintain equipment as volunteers or paid employees of city, township, state or federal government. Certification applies to full-time career firefighters who are employed as a member of a fire department providing fire service to the general public as their principal source of income and who perform fire, rescue, or related duties for $20,000 or more in any given consecutive twelve month period; or who have been assigned to work on a permanent basis the number of hours per week established by the hiring authority as a full work week.

Certification Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be of good character
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must pass medical and physical fitness requirements
  • Background check—no felony convictions
  • Must pass an oral interview
  • Complete a program of fire training within the first year of hire as a career firefighter

Examination

  • Physical agility test
  • Written exam (general knowledge)

Continuing Education

  • Not required

Fees

Recruit School for Level I and Level II Certification and Certified Career Firefighters $4,500.00

Reciprocity:  Permitted, with individual review of out-of-state credentials

Residence/Citizenship:  Neither New Hampshire residency nor US citizenship is required

Number of Active Licenses:  1,400
