Description
Undertakes to diagnose and treat diseases of the oral cavity and adjacent structures. Supervises individuals in the care of the mouth and instruct them in the ways to prevent dental disease. Most practice general dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontics, or periodontics. Some dentists teach in dental schools, do research, conduct dental programs, or serve as military commissioned officers.

Licensure Requirements
- High school graduate
- Three or four years of college
- Graduate of a school of dentistry (four years) accredited by the American Dental Association
- A permit and an application fee are required to administer general anesthesia, deep sedation, and conscious sedation
Examination
- Must pass national and regional examinations acceptable to the Board, unless credentials qualify applicant for licensure
Continuing Education
- Forty continuing education units (CEUs) every two years, with 30 CEUs in clinical dental care subjects, including successful completion of a basic life support course

Reciprocity: Endorsement certification shall be considered for each applicant who holds a current, unsuspended, unrestricted, license and registration certificate to practice dentistry who deposits with the Board the required credentials if, for the three years immediately prior to submitting the application, the applicant: (1) has practiced clinical dentistry in one or more states; or (2) has been in dental specialty training; or (3) has been in active military dental service; or (4) has been in any combination thereof
Residence/Citizenship: Neither New Hampshire residency nor US citizenship is required
