ATHLETIC TRAINER

Description

Working under the direction of a physician, an athletic trainer may evaluate the physical condition of and advise and treat athletes. Help athletes maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition. Prescribe routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles, recommend special diets, and give massages. Render first aid to injured players. Wrap athletes' fingers, wrists, ankles, etc., as needed to support muscles and ligaments. Treat chronic minor injuries and related disabilities to maintain athletes performance.

Licensure Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Proof of receipt of a Bachelor's degree
  • Successfully complete the certification examination administered by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOCATC)

Examination

  • National written examination required

Continuing Education

  • Continued BOCATC certification, requiring 80 hours of medically related continuing education credits every three years and adherence to a code of ethics

Biennial renewal $100.00
License reinstatement $200.00

Licenses expire on December 31 of each even-numbered year

Reciprocity:  Not permitted

Residence/Citizenship:  Neither New Hampshire residency nor US citizenship is required
