Highlights – September 2009 Estimates

(Note: Rates are not seasonally adjusted)

  • The September 2009 State unemployment rate was 7.0 percent. This was an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the August 2009 rate, which increased by 0.1 percentage point with revision. The September 2008 rate was 3.7 percent.
  • The NH portion of the Lebanon NH-VT MicroNECTA had the lowest unemployment rate for the month of September while the NH portion of the Colebrook NH-VT LMA had the highest.
  • Three areas registered rates between 4.0 and 5.0 percent:
    • NH portion of the Lebanon NH-VT MicroNECTA – 4.5 percent
    • Moultonborough NH LMA – 4.9 percent
    • Wolfeboro NH LMA – 4.9 percent
  • Three areas registered rates between 5.0 and 6.0 percent:
    • New London NH LMA – 5.2 percent
    • NH portion of the Conway NH-ME LMA – 5.6 percent
    • NH Portion of the Portsmouth NH-ME MetroNECTA – 5.8 percent
  • Eight areas registered rates between 6.0 and 7.0 percent:
    • Keene NH MicroNECTA – 6.3 percent
    • Plymouth NH LMA – 6.3 percent
    • Concord NH MicroNECTA – 6.4 percent
    • Haverhill NH LMA – 6.6 percent
    • Newport NH LMA - 6.6 percent
    • NH Portion of the Rochester-Dover NH-ME MetroNECTA – 6.6 percent
    • Berlin NH MicroNECTA – 6.7 percent
    • Peterborough NH LMA – 6.8 percent
  • Ten areas recorded rates at or above 7.0 percent:
    • NH Portion of the Littleton NH-VT LMA – 7.0 percent
    • Hillsborough NH LMA – 7.1 percent
    • Laconia NH MicroNECTA – 7.2 percent
    • Manchester NH MetroNECTA – 7.2 percent
    • Claremont NH LMA – 7.3 percent
    • Franklin NH MicroNECTA – 7.5 percent
    • NH Portion of the Nashua NH-MA NECTA Division – 7.5 percent
    • Charlestown NH LMA – 7.7 percent
    • NH portion of the Brattleboro VT-NH LMA- 8.0 percent
    • NH portion of the Colebrook NH-VT LMA – 10.7 percent
  • New Hampshire portion of the NECTA Divisions on the Massachusetts border:
    • NH Portion of the Exeter Area, Haverhill-North Andover-Amesbury MA-NH NECTA Division- 8.4 percent
    • NH Portion of the Lawrence-Methuen-Salem MA-NH NECTA Division – 9.7 percent
    • NH Portion of the Lowell-Billerica-Chelmsford MA-NH NECTA Division – 10.0 percent
  • New Hampshire’s September 2009 labor force estimates show 25,130 fewer employed and 23,990 more unemployed than in September 2008 for a year-to-year net loss in the labor force of 1,140.
