Origin: This territory was first granted to James Campbell upon petition to the Masonian Proprietors in 1748. For many years it was known as Campbell's Gore. Residents petitioned the General Assembly for incorporation in 1790, which was not granted. They petitioned for incorporation again in 1798 and requested the town be named Windsor. The town was incorporated as Windsor, probably after Windsor, Connecticut, the hometown of James Campbell. Windsor is the smallest town in New Hampshire south of the White Mountains.

Population Trends: Population change for Windsor totaled 174 over 50 years, from 27 in 1950 to 201 in 2000. The largest decennial percent change was an increase of 126 percent between 1990 and 2000, a numeric change of 112. The 2006 Census estimate for Windsor was 238 residents, which ranked 232nd among New Hampshire's incorporated cities and towns, the third smallest community.

Population Density, 2006: 28.9 persons per square mile of land area. Windsor contains 8.2 square miles of land area and 0.3 square miles of inland water area.
