Origin: First established as a parish of Hampton, this town received its grant as an independent town in 1726 following a petition to the legislature. Located on the Taylor River, Hampton Falls provided water power for Weare's mills. Meshech Weare, a descendant of the mill owners, was New Hampshire's first president, later called governor, in 1776. Hampton Falls was the birthplace of Ralph Adams Cram, a well-known architect, who designed the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York and chapels at West Point and Exeter Academy.

Population Trends: Population change for Hampton Falls totaled 1,261 over 50 years, from 629 in 1950 to 1,890 in 2000. The largest decennial percent change was 42 percent between 1960 and 1970, which followed a 41 percent increase over the previous decade. The 2008 Census estimate for Hampton Falls was 2,143 residents, which ranked 132nd among New Hampshire's incorporated cities and towns.

Population Density, 2008: 173.1 persons per square mile of land area. Hampton Falls contains 12.4 square miles of land area and 0.2 square miles of inland water area.
