


IIn December 2007, the NHEP Management Committee voted unanimously to expand the NHEP’s area of focus to the entire Great Bay Estuary watershed, including the 24 percent of the watershed in Maine. This shift is a critical step toward achieving the program’s watershed-wide goals of improving water quality and protecting and restoring important habitats.

The Land Conservation Plan for New Hampshire's Coastal Watershed
The Nature Conservancy, in partnership with the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, Rockingham Planning Commission and Strafford Regional Planning Commission, identify conservation priorities throughout the NH coastal watersheds using existing data on significant natural resource features, predictive GIS modeling, existing conservation plans, and local expert and public review. The Plan includes several natural resource maps of the NH coastal watersheds, including forest ecosystems, freshwater systems, coastal and estuarine resources, critical plant and wildlife habitat, and conservation focus areas.
