New Corrections Officers Graduate from Corrections Academy

(Concord, N.H) The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announces that the 97th Corrections Academy class will graduate from the pre-service training at a ceremony to be held at the Arthur D. Kehas Law Enforcement Training Center at the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council facility.

The mandatory nine week academy provides the new officers with the tools and resources needed to work in a correctional environment. This class is made up of 17 Corrections Officers who will be assigned to the New Hampshire State Prison for Men in Concord, the New Hampshire State Prison for Women in Goffstown, the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility in Berlin, the Secure Psychiatric Unit/Residential Treatment Unit in Concord, and the Corrections Transitional Work Center in Concord.

The employees received training in offender management, inter-personal communication, emergency preparedness, CPR, basic New Hampshire law, health and fitness, drug identification, medication principles, and a variety of other skills. The Corrections Officers were certified in firearms, defensive tactics and in the proper use of oleoresin capsicum (pepper spray). They resolved a series of scenarios to simulate the unpredictable challenges that they face daily behind prison walls. Upon graduation they will report to their assignments where they will receive further guidance from the Department’s team of Field Training Officers.
