NHDOC Annual Report Released
(Concord NH) The New Hampshire Department of Corrections published its annual report for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2012. This report is now available on our website.
The report highlights statistical and financial data from the previous fiscal year using easy to read charts and detailed descriptions. At the end of the FY12 the Department supervised a total offender population of 17,886 including prisons and probation and parole. This was an 8.7% increase over the previous fiscal year. The average cost of housing an inmate in prison last year was $35,071 per year, which was an increase over FY11. The average cost of housing an offender in a halfway house was $15,753 per year, which was also higher than FY11. The average cost of supervising someone on probation or parole was $608 per year, which was less than last year.
The annual report also includes a synopsis of the latest recidivism studies. In the last four years overall recidivism has declined from 50.3% to 43.2%.
During FY12, the Division of Field Services Collection Unit collected $3,194,663 in court ordered fees including restitution, which was a slight increase over the previous year.
Overall prescription costs declined from an FY11 average of $11.34 to an FY12 average of $10.39 per prescription. This is down substantially from a 2008 high of $32.85 per prescription.
