Inmate Obtains Her College Degree in Prison
(Goffstown, NH) An inmate at the New Hampshire State Prison for Women received her college degree during a short ceremony on June 23, 2009. Valerie Hall, 25, of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts obtained her Associates Degree in Social Sciences.
Miss Hall used her own resources to complete a Department of Corrections approved correspondence program from Ohio University over a period of eight years. She completed twenty-five courses. Offenders are permitted to obtain their college degrees using their own financial or other resources but the coursework must be approved by the Corrections Special School District.
Warden Joanne Fortier congratulated Miss Hall and said she sets a positive example for other offenders incarcerated at the women’s prison.
