High School Diploma to be Awarded to Inmate
(Concord, NH) An inmate at the New Hampshire State Prison for Men in Concord will receive his high school diploma from Fall Mountain Regional High School on June 16, 2009. The diploma will be awarded to 19 year old Richard Hurlbert of Walpole. Participating in the ceremony will be Fall Mountain Principal Thomas Ronning and Guidance Counselor Trina Carmody.
When Inmate Hurlburt was admitted to prison on September 28, 2008, he was one credit shy of obtaining his high school diploma. He completed the required English class and on May 1, 2009, his credit was successfully transferred to Fall Mountain Regional High School in Langdon so that he could receive his full diploma.
Granite State High School inside the facility provides offenders with the opportunity to obtain their high school diploma or their General Education Development (GED) certificate. Graduation exercises happen in the prison annually although this one is unique in that the offender’s original school district is awarding the diploma.
