NCF Temporarily Suspends Inmate Work Program at Gorham Town Hall
(Berlin, N.H.) Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility Acting Warden Larry D. Blaisdell announced that the New Hampshire Department of Corrections will temporarily suspend the inmate work release project at the Gorham Town Hall for a security review. It is expected to resume in a few weeks.
Since 2005, minimum security inmates have been assisting on the building renovation. In recent weeks there have been multiple incidents of tobacco products being left on the premises by persons unknown in an attempt to deliver those items to the prison. Tobacco products are contraband in prison. All attempts have been intercepted by prison staff. Following discussions between prison and town officials, it was agreed that thorough security review would take place before allowing the inmates to return.
“It is our expectation that these issues will be resolved in short order and we will have the inmates continuing their work when new security measures are put in place,” Acting Warden Blaisdell explained.
“We are pleased to be working with the Town of Gorham on this project and we will continue to provide this assistance until the project is completed next spring,” Acting Warden Blaisdell added.
