NH Dept of Corrections Probation/Parole Officers Learn to Identify Cyber-Crime
(Concord, NH) The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announced that Ossipee District Office Chief Probation/Parole Officer Theresa Meyers and Probation/Parole Officer Ron Cormier of the NHDOC Division of Field Services Central Office are becoming certified trainers in forensic computer analysis. They will work with other PPO’s to teach them how to find digital evidence of child pornography on computers, cell phones, digital cameras, portable memory cards, and other digital-based technologies.
A total of 48 New Hampshire law enforcement staff participated in the federally-sponsored training at the Warren B. Rudman United States District Courthouse in March; eighteen of them were NHDOC Probation/Parole Officers. It is part of New Hampshire’s Cyber-Crime initiative, a long range strategic plan implemented in 2004 to develop and maintain an effective statewide response to computer crime and enhance public safety using a collaboration of state, federal, and local law enforcement resources.
CPPO Meyers said, “We have offenders already convicted of sexual offenses and some have added stipulations prohibiting them from accessing computers. This training shows us what to look for and how to respond to it.”
These staff will provide training to other staff assigned to twelve District Offices located throughout New Hampshire.
