Shea Farm Halfway House to Host Offender Wellness Fair

(Concord, NH)  The New Hampshire Department of Corrections Division of Community Corrections is embarking on a series of Wellness programs for female offenders at the Shea Farm Halfway House in Concord. On Thursday January 26, 2006 at 1:00 PM, experts from eighteen private and public organizations will meet with the offenders to provide them with helpful tools and resources for better health and wellness.

The following organizations are scheduled to attend: Concord Cooperative Market, Womankind, Riverbend Community Health, Manchester Community Health, Northeast Institute of Whole Health, Concord YMCA, UNH Cooperative Extension, New Hampshire State Hospital, The NH Department of Employment Security, Hesser College, Concord Aerobics and Fitness Center, Teen Challenge, KAIROS, Martha Acoin Theo-Phostics, Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, Saint Anselm College, and A New You.

Throughout February and March topic-specific wellness programs will be offered to the women on a weekly basis. Some of the topics include stress reduction for women, living with depression, posture, exercise, cooperative parenting, and nutrition.

Commissioner William L. Wrenn said, “Stressing health and wellness is a key factor in an offender’s successful return to the community.  These programs will assist women to better balance the pressures and demands that they confront as they return.”

The events are volunteer run and provided at no cost to New Hampshire taxpayers.
