(Concord, NH) New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner Stephen J. Curry announced that New Hampshire Corrections Academy #79 began on March 14, 2005. Thirty-nine NH-DOC staff are participating in the eight-week training program at the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training facility in Concord.

Twenty-three of them are Correctional Officers and 14 are non-uniformed staff. Upon completion they will be assigned to one of the four state prisons (NH State Prison, Concord; Lakes Region Facility, Laconia; NH State Prison For Women, Goffstown, and the Northern NH Correctional Facility, Berlin) The graduation ceremony will occur on May 6, 2005.

The cadets will receive training in offender management, inter-personal communication, defensive tactics, and health and fitness issues as well as a wide variety of other skills.

The cadets will resolve a series of scenarios to simulate the many unpredictable challenges that they face on a daily basis behind prison walls.
