NEW HAMPSHIRE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS ACADEMY UNDERWAY
(Concord, NH) New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner Phil Stanley announced that New Hampshire Corrections Academy #74 began on August 11, 2003. 24 NH-DOC staff are participating in the eight-week training program at the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training facility in Concord.
6 of the cadets are employed at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility in Berlin. 3 of them are Correctional Officers and 5 are non-uniformed staff. 14 officers and 4 non-uniformed staff will also be assigned to one of the three other state prisons (NH State Prison, Concord; Lakes Region Facility, Laconia; NH State Prison For Women, Goffstown) following the graduation on October 3, 2003.
The cadets will receive training in offender management, inter-personal communication, defensive tactics, and health and fitness issues as well as a wide variety of other skills. The cadets will resolve a series of scenarios to simulate the many unpredictable challenges that they face on a daily basis behind prison walls.
Commissioner Stanley said, "The Corrections Academy provides new employees will the basic skills needed to work in a prison environment. I am pleased to welcome the new recruits to DOC." |
