NH DEPT OF CORRECTIONS SCHEDULES FREE PUBLIC TOURS-OPEN HOUSES IN JUNE AND JULY
(Concord, NH) New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner Phil Stanley announced that for the third year public tours/open houses will occur at the four state prison facilities in June and July. A tour of the NH State Prison for Men in Concord will happen Friday, June 20, 2003. New Hampshire residents will be given an opportunity to observe daily prison operations and receive information on where their tax dollars go.
There will be three opportunities to see inside the facility, located at 281 North State Street, Concord. The 90-minute tours will occur at 9:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 7:00 PM. Those on the tour will have no contact with inmates. Public Safety is the top priority. Refreshments will be served following the tour. Designated prison staff will describe different aspects of prison life and programs
Interested parties should meet at the prison's visiting room entrance at least twenty minutes prior to each tour.
For security purposes, certain stipulations apply.
1. Each individual must have a proper photo identification (driver's license, Passport)
2. No photography or tape recording equipment will be allowed on the tours
3. No pocketknives are allowed
4. Pre-sign-up is encouraged by calling (603) 271-1812 by June 18.
5. Appropriate dress is requested
The prison is a tobacco-free facility. Vehicles parked on the premises must be secured.
The other institutions will open their doors to the public as well. Two tours of the NH State Prison for Women at 317 Mast Rd., Goffstown will be offered on June 17 at 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM. The Northern NH Correctional Facility, 138 East Milan Rd., Berlin will provide tours on June 26 at 1:00 PM and 5:30 PM. A single tour of the Lakes Region Facility, One Right Way Path Laconia was scheduled for July 23 at 4:00 PM. Participants are urged to arrive early with proper photo identification. The Berlin facility does not request pre-registration.
