(Concord, NH) New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner Phil Stanley announced that New Hampshire Corrections Academy #70 begins on October 29, 2001. 43 NH-DOC staff will participate in the eight-week training program. It will take place at the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training facility in Concord.
18 of the cadets are employed at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility in Berlin. 13 of them are Correctional Officers and 5 are non-uniformed staff. 17 officers and 6 non-uniformed staff will be assigned to one of the three other state prisons (NH State Prison, Concord; Lakes Region Facility, Laconia; NH State Prison For Women, Goffstown) following the graduation on December 21, 2001. There are also two Probation/Parole Officers in this academy.
The cadets will receive training in offender management, inter-personal communication, defensive tactics, and health and fitness issues as well as a wide variety of other skills. The cadets will resolve a series of scenarios to simulate the many unpredictable challenges that they face on a daily basis behind prison walls.
Stanley said, "The Corrections Academy provides new employees will the basic skills needed to work in a prison environment. I am pleased to welcome the new recruits to DOC." |
