Eight Medals Presented to Corrections Staff in Secure Psychiatric Unit

(Concord, N.H.) On September 26, 2013, New Hampshire Department of Corrections William L. Wrenn presented eight medals and citation bars of extraordinary accomplishment to seven employees assigned to the Secure Psychiatric Unit in Concord. They were recognized during a ceremony for their parts in two incidents that occurred in that unit in the last year.

For a September 27, 2012 incident four employees were recognized for preventing an inmate from taking his own life inside a dayroom. Corrections Officers Christopher Bernsten and Benjamin Densmore received the Department of Corrections Life Saving medal. Corrections Officer Raimo Kalvi and Registered Nurse Eric Brungot received the Department’s Team Commendation citation bar.

For a May 10, 2013 incident four employees were presented bars and medals for preventing an inmate from taking his own life in his cell. Corrections Officers Christopher Bernsten and Benjamyn Carver received the Department’s Life Saving medal. Corrections Corporal Stacie Lamontagne and Registered Nurse John Lombard received the Department’s Team Commendation citation bar.

The Department has five medals and bars that can be awarded to its staff for extraordinary accomplishments. Those are the Medal of Honor, the Life Saving medal, the Line of Duty medal (for injury in the line of duty), the Honorable Service citation bar and the Team Commendation citation bar.

Commissioner Wrenn will be visiting other Department facilities in the coming weeks to present additional bars and medals.
