Four Department of Corrections Employees Receive Medals and Citation Bars

(Concord, N.H.) New Hampshire State Prison for Men Warden Richard M. Gerry presented five medals and citations to four employees for their exceptional effort toward the preservation of life and orderly operation of the prison. This is in addition to medals and citations that were presented on September 10, 2013.

Registered Nurse Heidi Rule was awarded the Department’s Life Saving medal for a June 7, 2012 incident in which an inmate attempted to take his own life. She provided life saving medical treatment to the inmate until an ambulance arrived to transport him to Concord Hospital. Corrections Officer Preston Schaub received the Team Commendation citation bar for the assistance he provided during the same incident.

Corrections Officer Athena Panas was recognized with two Team Commendation citation bars for her role in two separate incidents. She was a member of the First Response Team on May 8, 2013 and assisted in protecting the scene of an attempted suicide in the Medium Custody South Unit. She was also recognized for assisting her fellow officers on December 22, 2012 in helping an inmate who was in need of medical attention.

Corrections Corporal Jeremiah Totten also received the Team Commendation citation bar for the December 22, 2012 incident

The Department of Corrections has five medals or citations that can be awarded to its staff for going above and beyond the call of duty in their service to the public. Those are the Medal of Honor, the Life Saving medal, the Honorable Service citation bar, the Line of Duty citation bar (for an injury in the line of duty), and the Team Commendation citation bar.

Commissioner William L. Wrenn will be presenting additional medals and bars to staff in the coming weeks.
