Probation - When an individual has been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony and released into the community for supervision

Parole - A legal status whereby an offender convicted of a felony and sentenced to the New Hampshire State Prison is released into the community by the parole board.

The Division of Field Services supervises New Hampshire offenders who are not currently incarcerated behind bars. Field Services is responsible for the following.

  • Approximately 4,500 people on Probation
  • Approximately 1,800 people on parole
  • Approximately 150 people who are released on bail
  • Approximately 6,800 people who have been ordered to pay restitution to a victim
  • Approximately 35 individuals on Administrative Home Confinement (sometimes called electronic monitoring or the "ankle bracelet")
  • Approximately 500 people for other types of supervision

Field Services is also responsible for conducting Pre-Sentencing Investigations. These investigations are requested by a court of law. It includes a thorough evaluation of the offender's criminal charge, a thorough review of the circumstances including interviews with affected parties, and a recommendation to sentencing judge.

The Division of Field Services also supervises offenders on probation or parole from outher jurisidictions using an Interstate Compact agreement. Please follow this link if you want more information about the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision or ICAOS

Administrative Home Confinement - Supervision for offenders approved for Administrative Home Confinement (AHC) also known as electronic monitoring falls under the jurisdiction of the Division of Field Services. On July 1, 2010 the state entered into a contract with a new vendor to provide this service. The costs are as follows.

The rates are as follows:
$5.75 for RF landline, $80.50 for 14 days (traditional monitoring)
VICAP (alcohol testing): $9.00 a day with Patrol RF landline ($126.00 for 14 days), $5.75 a day stand alone alcohol testing ($80.50 for 14 days)
$6.00 a day for RF Cellular, $84.00 for 14 days (does not require a landline telephone)
$6.00 a day for passive GPS, $84.00 for 14 days
$6.25 a day for Intermediate GPS, $87.50 for 14 days
$8.00 per day for active GPS, $112.00 for 14 days
