Royal Governor Jonathan BelcherRoyal Governor Jonathan Belcher (1730-1741). Belcher (1681-1757) was born at Cambridge, Massachusetts and educated in Massachusetts. After school he spent several years traveling in Europe. He was then the colonial agent for Massachusetts and lived in London. He was appointed Royal Governor of Massachusetts and the province of New Hampshire, and served 1730-1741. He served as Royal Governor of New Jersey, 1747-1757
