Josiah Bartlett (President, 1790-1791; Governor 1792-1794).
Bartlett (1729-1795) was born at Amesbury (MA). He practiced medicine at Kingston (NH) from 1750 and was founder and first president of the New Hampshire Medical Society; but he was called on frequently to fill state and national offices, and he often had to forego practice of medicine for long periods.
Bartlett was a signer of the Declaration of Independence (1776). He served as Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas (1779), and was President of New Hampshire in 1790-1791 and Governor of New Hampshire in 1792-1794, when the title of the state's chief executive was changed.
