Arts in Health Care Information Workshop: October 12

Health care staff, artists, arts organizations and volunteers are invited to attend a free Arts in Health Care Information Workshop on Tuesday, October 12, from 9 a.m. - noon at the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts (NHSCA) in Concord. Information about the NHSCA’s Arts in Health Care grants, Arts in Health Care Artist Directory, handouts and resources will be available.

Arts in Health CareProject Grants support arts activities, artist residencies and arts training programs that occur in health care facilities, nursing homes and in centers serving the elderly. Grant funds support participatory arts programs where patients, residents, clients and staff are directly engaged in the creative process with professional artists. The next deadline for Arts in Health Care Project Grantsis November19, 2010 for projects taking place between February 1, 2011 to September 30, 2011.

The New Hampshire Arts in Healthcare Artist Directory helps health care and nursing home providers locate professional artists who can engage their residents and clients in arts activities; some can provide training for staff to lead arts activities as well. Artists listed in this directory have experience or training that relates to working in health care settings, often including those with elderly populations. They come from diverse disciplines and cultures and live in various regions of New Hampshire.

The October 12 workshop will feature multi-media presentations by three experienced Arts in Health Care project/grant coordinators: Lucy Crichton, interfaith chaplain at Havenwood Heritage Heights, Concord; Alice Kinsler, manager of Therapeutic Arts and Activity Services, Concord Hospital; and Frumie Selchen, executive director of the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire. NHSCA Arts in Health Care Artist Directory member Martha “Bobbi” Herron, a SAORI weaving coach and owner of Freedom Weavers Studio, will also present at the workshop.
