Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grants preserve living traditions for future generations
Through their FY2013 Apprenticeship grant, Debbie Dostie has taught Vicki Blanchard the craft and history of Native American bead work and has covered techniques including weaving on a tension loom, appliqué, and stringing. Beadwork has long been used by New England Native Americans for record keeping and storytelling.
In partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts provides grants to assist in the preservation of traditional/heritage-based arts (crafts, dance and music) by funding a master traditional artist to teach an experienced apprentice in one-to-one sessions.
