NH STATE ARTS COUNCIL PARTNERS IN DANCE EDUCATION INITIATIVE IN VERMONT
LYNDON CENTER — The NH State Arts Council has partnered with Maine and Vermont to present “Lighting A Spark,” an initiative designed to expand dance education throughout the region. The all-day event will take place on November 17th and is open to New Hampshire dancers, dance and physical education teachers, and school administrators.
The event will be held in conjunction with the 5th Annual Vermont State Dance Festival that is being hosted by Lyndon Institute. Participants will have the opportunity to join other dancers, educators, arts administrators and dance advocates for a day of workshops, networking and discussion of dance in Vermont.
The full-day event will include the opportunity to participate in two workshops with professional dance instructors and attend a presentation by keynote speaker Marty Sprague, a choreographer and performer with over 30 years of experience in dance education. The day also includes both lunch and dinner and concludes with a public performance by high school dancers from throughout the state.
The event will also serve as an introduction to “Extending the Dance Map” – a four-day training for dance and physical educators that will be held over two weekends in January and March. The program is designed to give interested dancers and educators an introduction to the skills required to teach dance in rural schools.
“Extending the Dance Map” is a tri-state project with Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire, made possible in part by the Dana Foundation and the Vermont Arts Council, in partnership with the Vermont Department of Education, Lyndon Institute, Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire and the New England Consortium or Artist-Educator Professionals.
If you are interested in attending this event or would like to receive the full schedule for the day, please contact Rebecca McGregor, dance instructor and Dance Map Coordinator at Lyndon Institute, by e-mailing rebecca.mcgregor@lyndoninstitute.org or by calling 802-626-1356.
