New Hampshire Arts Organizations Awarded over $800,000 in Grants from the National Endowment for the Arts

The National Endowment for the Arts has announced that, with its second round of grants, New Hampshire arts organizations will receive eight grants totaling $844,800 in fiscal 2008. The largest grant, $719,800 , goes to the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts for its statewide efforts to support and promote the arts. These funds help support artist residencies in schools and communities, artist fellowship and professional development grants, folk arts apprenticeships and projects, the Poetry Out Loud recitation competition, and a variety of other grants and services that reach communities throughout the state. This partnership grant is matched with state appropriations made possible by New Hampshire’s Governor and Legislature.

The other seven grants, amounting to $125,000, went to Monadnock Music in Peterborough, the Hopkins Center in Hanover, the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, The Old Man of the Mountain Legacy Fund in Concord, the art museum at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, and Opera North in Lebanon.

The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts is a division of the Department of Cultural Resources. Its mission is to promote the arts to protect and enrich New Hampshire’s unique quality of life. To learn more about its grants and programs go to, www.nh.gov/nharts
