Art Starts
are e-news bulletins that bring you timely updates from the NH State Council on the Arts as well as from local, regional and national partners.

Early-bird registration deadline TODAY (September 30,  2010)…

New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA)’s 9th Annual Idea Swap: November 3, 2010,  9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Annual event for New England-based nonprofit presenting organizations to network and share project ideas that may qualify for funding from NEFA’s Expeditions grant program.

Come and present your project. You can also browse and post ideas before the Idea Swap, even if you are unable to attend. Other opportunities for sharing your project idea include networking time and "Mini Swaps." Display tables are available to all participants for sharing promotional materials.

Takes place at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA, on November 3, 2010, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

$40 early registration (through September 30, 2010); $50 (after September 30, 2010).

Arts in Health Care workshop: October 12, 2010, 9 a.m. - noon

Free workshop open to health care staff, arts organizations artists and volunteers with an interest in arts and health care.

Learn about the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts’ Arts in Health Care grants, Arts in Health Care Artist Directory and more. Multimedia presentations with three Arts in Health Care project/grant coordinators plus Martha "Bobbie" Herron, a weaver and artist on the NHSCA Arts in Health Care Directory, will be featured. 

This event is FREE and takes place at the NH State Council on the Arts,  2½ Beacon St., Concord, NH, on October 12,  2010, 9 a.m. – noon.

Celebrate! “Arts for Life” opening reception

“Arts for Life” is a yearlong celebration of the fine and performing arts in New Hampshire, honoring UNH’s Paul Creative Art Center’s 50th year and setting the stage for continued great works.

Join Kenneth Fuld, dean of UNH’s College of Liberal Arts, and special guest Van McLeod, commissioner of the NH Department of Cultural Resources, for the opening reception, followed your choice of a faculty music recital of solo and chamber music, or a performance of the musical Rent.

Events take place at UNH’s Paul Creative Arts Center on Friday, October 8, 2010. Reception is from5-7 p.m.; Rent begins at 7 p.m.; faculty recital begins at 8 p.m.

RSVP by October 1 at www.unh.edu/pcac/rsvp or (603) 862-2150. There is no cost to attend the opening reception and the faculty recital; the first 50 people to RSVP will receive a free ticket to that evening’s performance of Rent.

New England Presenters (NEP) and Arts Presenters of Northern New England (APNNE) seminar, “Arts Presenting and the New Realities”: October 13, 2010, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Learn more about how the presenting environment has changed, why and how to think differently, and how to re-imagine yourself and your organization now. Seminar is based upon the collected input of presenters from around the country, concepts for thinking differently and how to make practical applications.

Takes place at the Redfern Arts Center, Keene State College, on October 13, 2010, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Please bring $14 to cover the cost of breakfast and lunch.

New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) Info Session, “Funding Opportunities and Services for New England’s Nonprofits and Artists”: October 13, 2010, 4-6 p.m.

Reminders…

Request for Artist Proposals Deadline: October 15, 2010

The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, through the Percent for Art program, is requesting proposals for existing and newly commissioned artwork and craftwork for interior and exterior spaces of the New Hampshire Army National Guard, Construction and Facilities Management Office, Building F in Concord, NH.

This Percent for Art project was made possible through State Arts Funds approved in the State Capital budget in fiscal year 2005.

Deadline: Postmarked on or before October 15, 2010, or delivered to the NH State Council on the Arts, 2½ Beacon St., Concord, NH, by 4:15 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010.

2010 Statewide Arts Education Conference, “Field of Vision”: October 22-24, 2010


The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts' annual Statewide Arts Education Conference, offers professional development for educators and teaching artists.

The conference offers inspiring presentations, workshops, resources and networking opportunities for artists, educators and community supporters of arts in education. Each year the conference explores a new theme and presents local, regional and nationally respected leaders in the field of arts education. The theme for the 2010 conference is “Field of Vision.”
Takes place at the AMC Highland Center, Crawford Notch, Bretton Woods on October 22-24, 2010.
