Traditional
Arts & Folklife Listing
Introduction & Artist Fees
The Traditional Arts & Folklife Listing contains
information on traditional artists who are available for presentations,
demonstrations, performances, and workshops on various aspects
of traditional arts and culture. The artists in the Listing
have either participated in a Traditional
Arts Apprenticeship or were one of the featured participants
in either New Hampshire's program at the 1999 Smithsonian
Folklife Festival and/or the Celebrate New Hampshire Festival.
Please
note: Many of the artists listed are employed during the
day, and thus have limited availability for weekday activities.
Inclusion
of Folklorists/Community Scholars in Project:
Presenters
and sponsors are encouraged to include folklorists/community
scholars in presentations of traditional artists. These individuals
can help set an appropriate cultural and historical context
for the presentation and provide other information that helps
educate audiences to the importance, beauty and complexity
of traditional arts and culture.
Artist
Fees:
The
traditional artists and community scholars/folklorists establish
their own fees for presentations. However, the New Hampshire
State Council on the Arts recommends a payment of no less
than $150 per day for an individual and no less than $300
for a group. We request that presenters compensate for mileage
based upon the federal rate, which can be found at www.gsa.gov/mileage. When asking
artists to travel more than 1½ hours driving distance
from their home, we encourage presenters to provide appropriate
lodging and meals.
Mini-Grants:
Mini-Grants
enable not-for-profit organizations and groups to present
traditional artists and folklorists/community scholars included
in the Traditional Arts & Folklife Listing.
