Christopher Kies is currently Associate Professor of Music at the University of New Hampshire. In 2000, he received a Composer of the YearAward from the New Hampshire Music Teachers Association. He has been commissioned to create new music for the NH Music Teachers Association, the UNH Department of Theater and Dance (a ballet score for the true story of The Ballad of Smuttynose), the NH Women’s Chorus, and the UNH Center for Humanities Programs and Project Grants.

He writes music for piano, horn, string quartets, percussion, wind instruments, voice, and chorus that can be performed by amateurs and professionals alike. He maintains a busy performance schedule as a soloist, chamber music and ensemble player. He especially enjoys giving recitals for two and four-hand pianos.
