Kies, composer, Durham
Christopher
Kies is currently Associate Professor of Music at the University
of New Hampshire. In 2000, he received a Composer of the YearAward
from the New Hampshire Music Teachers Association. He has
been commissioned to create new music for the NH Music Teachers
Association, the UNH Department of Theater and Dance (a ballet
score for the true story of The Ballad
of Smuttynose), the NH Womens Chorus, and
the UNH Center for Humanities Programs and Project Grants.
He writes
music for piano, horn, string quartets, percussion, wind instruments,
voice, and chorus that can be performed by amateurs and professionals
alike. He maintains a busy performance schedule as a soloist,
chamber music and ensemble player. He especially enjoys giving
recitals for two and four-hand pianos.
