Dorothy Yanish
Dorothy J. Yanish is an artist, educator
and administrator who supports the
evolution and development of individual,
community and statewide programs in the
arts, arts education and interdisciplinary
participation.
She is incorporator, director,
performer and administrator for the
Raylynmor Opera, where she has been
involved since 1995.
Yanish’s theatre credits include production
and stage direction for operas ranging
from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro to Gilbert
and Sullivan’s Iolanthe. She also directed
Georges Bizet’s Carmen, a professional
production that also included 21 Jaffrey
Elementary School students. In 1998,
Yanish designed and produced Raylynmor’s
six-month Young Artist Program in
opera performance.
Yanish has performed as a recitalist and
soloist at both professional and community
levels in Pittsburgh, Washington, DC,
Boston and on tour through the Soviet
Union. She has appeared with the
Raylynmor Opera, Lowell Opera, De Capo
Opera, Pittsburgh Light Opera, Opera
Barga, and Peterborough Players.
As a voice instructor, Yanish teaches at
Franklin Pierce College and has also
taught at Keene State College, Newton
South High School in MA, and grades
K-8 at the Well School. Yanish also
teaches private students of every level
at her Peterborough studio.
She holds a BS in Music Education and
Voice from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and an MM in Voice and
Opera Performance from the Catholic University of America. She has taken
additional studies at the Hartt School of Music, the Longy School of Music, and the
New England Conservatory. Yanish is a
member and former state governor of the
National Association of Teachers of Singing.
