  • How can I become a certified Marital Mediator?
    After completing the required training and internship, one must submit a completed application, application fee, requested documentation, evaluations from the certified mediator(s) who supervised the internship, and three letters of recommendation satisfactory to the Board.

  • How can I get an application?
    Applications may be downloaded from this website or you may request one be mailed to you by emailing the board or calling the above phone number and providing your complete mailing address.

  • What training or experience does a certified Marital Mediator have?
    Effective 1 November 2006, a New Hampshire certified Marital Mediator initially must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in any field. Beyond that the mediator must have 48 hours of instructional training in a New Hampshire certified program and an approved internship of at least 20 hours with a certified mediator. Certain professions may qualify an applicant to complete a reduced internship of only 10 hours.

    Marital mediators must also keep current by participating in continuing education in order to remain certified by the state.

  • Whom can I contact to get an internship?
    All marital mediators certified by this board may provide internships. However, these mediators Adobe Acrobat Reader Symbol have indicated a willingness to accept interns. Both list are kept current on a regular basis by the board.

  • I was a mediator in another state. How do I become certified in this state?
    Your background and/or training in another state may or may not satisfy some of the requirements for certification in New Hampshire. After consulting the rules, you may write to the board and submit documentation for consideration of your satisfactory completion of certain requirements.

  • How do I renew my certification?
    To renew certification, each certified marital mediator must submit a renewal application, application fee and requested documentation no more than four months, nor less than two months, before the certification expiration date. Each certified mediator is required to provide evidence of attendance of at least 24 hours of continuing education approved by the Board. As part of the total continuing education hours, the certified mediator must take at least 3 hours in each of the following: mediator ethics, updates on NH laws, mediation skills and domestic violence.
