Associate Justice James E. Duggan

Duggan, Click to enlarge (11MB) from 1977 until he came to the Supreme Court in January 2001, following his nomination by Gov. Jeanne Shaheen. He had been director of the state’s appellate defender program, which represented indigent clients before the Supreme Court and he had argued hundreds of cases before the justices.

A native of Laconia, NH, Justice Duggan is a graduate of Georgetown University and Georgetown Law Center, both in Washington D.C. Justice Duggan's appointment  followed the retirement of Associate Justice Sherman D. Horton Jr.
