Rule 2.4.8. Declining or Terminating Representation

    
    (a) Once a GAL has appeared in a matter, the GAL's continued representation may not be terminated by the parties without the court's permission. A GAL is considered as having appeared once he or she has been appointed or approved by the court to represent a child or other person, and has entered an appearance.   
                             
   
(b) Upon termination of representation, the GAL shall take steps to the extent reasonably practicable to protect the child's or represented person's best interest, allowing time for employment of another GAL, surrendering papers and property to which the child or represented person, the parties, or the court may be entitled and refunding any advance payment of fee that has not been earned.
