CHAPTER II. GUARDIAN AD LITEM GUIDELINES AND STANDARDS OF PRACTICE

Rule 2.4.2. Scope of Representation

    
    (a) The GAL shall be the representative for and of the best interest of the child or represented person. All rules, regulations, and standing orders of the superior, district andmunicipal, and probate courts shall ordinarily apply to guardians ad litem.

    (b) The GAL may be required to reach an independent conclusion on what is in the best interest of the child or represented person but, in reaching such conclusion, may, in appropriate cases, consider the preferences of the child or represented person.

    (c) The GAL serves as an officer of the court and shall have such standing and make such accountability in the proceedings as the court deems appropriate.
