Guidelines For Guardians Ad Litem

Guideline 1.

Persons appointed to serve as Guardian ad Litem of minor children pursuant to RSA 458:17-a shall be Attorneys at Law admitted to practice law before the Courts of the State of New Hampshire, except where in extraordinary circumstances the court shall otherwise order. The Guardian ad Litem shall be the Attorney for and represent the best interests of the minor(s). All rules and regulations applicable to Attorneys practicing before the Superior Court except as to matters specifically addressed by these guidelines shall ordinarily apply, unless otherwise ordered by the Master or a Justice. The Guardian ad Litem should consider the preferences of the minor(s) but the preferences shall not be binding upon the Guardian ad Litem nor should they create a presumption as to any issue.
