CLASSIFICATION:  RESIDENTIAL AIDE

BASIC PURPOSE:  To perform entry level work in the care and maintenance of resident areas, thus providing for a safe, clean, and orderly living environment.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·           Cleans and sanitizes resident areas of the facility, including residents’ bureaus, closets, and rooms.

 

·           Removes contaminated and non-contaminated waste from buildings and disposes of it in the prescribed manner.

 

·           Cleans equipment used by the nursing department and reports defective equipment to supervisor.

 

·           Cleans and organizes supply and linen storage areas for better efficiency, as well as for safety reasons.

 

·           Stocks nursing unit with paper goods and nursing supplies to be used for resident care.

 

·           Assists nursing staff with passing of resident meals, nourishment and snacks.

 

·           Assists nursing staff with transporting of residents, via wheelchair to various activities and functions.

DISTINGUISHING FACTORS:

 

Skill:  Requires skill in applying instructions to accomplish different job functions OR in operating machines for a variety of different purposes.

 

Knowledge:  Requires common sense understanding of instructions in performing a series of routine procedures.

 

Impact:  Requires minimal responsibility for contributing to agency objectives by supporting or performing routine work activities within a small organizational unit.  Errors at this level are of minor consequence and are readily detected through frequent checking or inspection.

 

Supervision:  Requires no supervision of employees or functions.

 

Working Conditions:  Requires performing regular job functions in an adverse working environment containing a combination of disagreeable elements which impact significantly upon the employee's capacity for completing work assignments.  This level includes work-related accidents or assault.

 

Physical Demands:  Requires medium to heavy work, including continuous physical exertion such as frequent bending, lifting, or climbing.

 

Communication:  Requires obtaining and exchanging information, referring inquiries to the appropriate source, or responding to questions from state employees or members of the general public.

 

Complexity:  Requires a combination of job functions using minimal judgment to perform a variety of job tasks according to clearly prescribed standard practices and procedures.

 

Independent Action:  Requires minimal choice in performing routine duties under immediate supervision and in following simple instructions according to standardized policies or procedures.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:  Completion of two years of high school or its equivalent.

 

Experience:  No experience required.

 

License/Certification:  Valid New Hampshire driver’s license and access to transportation if required to transport residents/clients to appointments and activities.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMNT:  Must be willing to attend and complete in-service training courses at the Residential Aide level and as required by the employer.

 

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:  Elementary knowledge of the materials used and the processes involved in hospitals, institutions, or group housing settings.  Ability to get along with people and maintain an empathic attitude toward the mentally and physically ill.  Ability to learn materials and processes used in attending the personal needs of institutionalized residents/clients.  Ability to exercise sound judgment in unusual situations.  Ability to observe residents/clients and learn established techniques in the care of patients.  Ability to read and write.  Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the appointing authority.
