CLASSIFICATION:  REPRODUCING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I

BASIC PURPOSE:  To operate and maintain photocopy or offset press equipment used in the reproduction of documents, sketches, graphs, forms, charts, and other printed material.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Prepares for operation and operates reproducing machines to reproduce a variety of forms, letters, reports and other similar material.

 

·        Prepares for operation and operates microfilm equipment to reproduce maps, drawings, records and other documents.

 

·        Adds appropriate inks or chemicals to machine and loads machine with appropriate paper as necessary.

 

·        Performs preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments on machines.

 

·        Prepares completed work for distribution following requester’s instructions.

 

·        Operates paper drill, padding press, folder or automatic stapler.

 

·        Operates a paper cutter, automatic or mechanical collator, binder or paper punch.

DISTINGUISHING FACTORS:

 

Skill:  Requires skill in applying instructions to accomplish different job functions OR in operating machines for a variety of different purposes.

 

Knowledge:  Requires understanding and using business or trades vocabulary or basic arithmetic to perform standard operating procedures.

 

Impact:  Requires minimal responsibility for contributing to agency objectives by supporting or performing routine work activities within a small organizational unit.  Errors at this level are of minor consequence and are readily detected through frequent checking or inspection.

 

Supervision:  Requires no supervision of employees or functions.

 

Working Conditions:  Requires performing regular job functions in an environment which includes exposure to continuous physical elements or a number of disagreeable working conditions with frequent exposure to minor injuries or health hazards.

 

Physical Demands:  Requires medium work, including continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending, or lifting as well as performing work activities which require fine manual dexterity or coordination in operating machines or equipment.

 

Communication:  Requires obtaining and exchanging information, referring inquiries to the appropriate source, or responding to questions from state employees or members of the general public.

 

 

 

Complexity:  Requires a combination of job functions using minimal judgment to perform a variety of job tasks according to clearly prescribed standard practices and procedures.

 

Independent Action:  Requires minimal choice in performing routine duties under immediate supervision and in following simple instructions according to standardized policies and procedures.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:  Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or its equivalent.  Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

 

Experience:  One year of experience in the operation of photocopying machines or similar reproducing equipment.

 

License/Certification:  None required.

 

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:  Demonstrated ability to clean and repair photocopying equipment involving mechanical parts.  Ability to file material in logical sequence.  Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and the general public.  Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
