CLASSIFICATION:  OPERATIONS AND SKI LIFT REPAIR SUPERVISOR

BASIC PURPOSE:  To supervise the work of a group of journeymen, apprentices and laborers engaged in installation, maintenance and repair in connection with an aerial passenger tramway and surface-type ski lifts at a state ski area.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Schedules and supervises daily inspections of the aerial tramway and other aerial lifts; prepares major rigging as required for repairs on the aerial tramway, assigning work and supervising subordinates.

 

·        Coordinates work schedules; assigns work for the operation and maintenance of ski lifts, supervising from the point of view of speed of accomplishment and quality of work performed.

 

·        Inspects completed work by climbing to high altitudes and makes modifications to improve quality or quantity of procedures; makes recommendations concerning the installation and maintenance of various types of safety devices.

 

·        Trains subordinates in accordance with established certification standards for the maintenance and evaluation of the tramway and all lifts.

 

·        Maintains parts inventory for ski lift repairs and supervises the maintenance of proper inventory levels; orders parts from foreign and domestic vendors and may supervise the fabrication of parts not otherwise available.

 

·        Supervises the preparation of all repair and service logs required by the national Ski Areas Association and the NH Tramway Safety Board.

DISTINGUISHING FACTORS:

 

Skill:  Requires skill in developing formats and procedures for special applications OR in investigating and reviewing the use of equipment and data for a specialized function.

 

Knowledge:  Requires knowledge of business practices and procedures or technical training in a craft or trade, including working from detailed instructions, to apply knowledge in a variety of practical situations.

 

Impact:  Requires responsibility for contributing to immediate, ongoing agency objectives by facilitating the direct provision of services to the public or other state agencies.  Errors at this level result in inaccurate reports or invalid test results and require significant investment of time and resources to detect.

 

Supervision:  Requires direct supervision of other employees doing work which is related or similar to the supervisor, including scheduling work, recommending leave, reviewing work for accuracy, performance appraisal, or interviewing applicants for position vacancies.

 

Working Conditions:  Requires performing regular job functions in an adverse working environment containing a combination of disagreeable elements which impact significantly upon the employee's capacity for completing work assignments.  This level includes work-related accidents or assault.

 

 

 

Physical Demands:  Requires medium to heavy work, including continuous physical exertion such as frequent bending, lifting or climbing.

 

Communication:  Requires summarizing data, preparing reports and making recommendations based on findings which contribute to solving problems and achieving work objectives.  This level also requires presenting information for use by administrative-level managers in making decisions.

 

Complexity:  Requires coordinating a combination of diverse job functions in order to integrate professional and technical agency goals.  This level also requires considerable judgment to implement a sequence of operations or actions.

 

Independent Action:  Requires a range of choice in applying a number of technical or administrative policies under general direction and in making routine decisions or in recommending modifications in work procedures for approval by supervisor.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:  Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or equivalent and completion of apprenticeship training or its equivalent in a trade such as plumbing, electricity, rigging or machinist work.  Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

 

Experience:  Five years' experience in general maintenance and repair work, two years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.  Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

 

License/Certification:  Valid New Hampshire driver's license.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

 

Must be able to climb and have no fear of working high places.

 

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:  Some knowledge of various trades including rigging, painting, electrical installation and maintenance, plumbing and machinist work.  Knowledge of the hazards and safety practices of the various trades.  Working knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment and methods of the trade.  Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work from plans to layout, assign and supervise the work of journeymen and helpers.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates.  Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
