CLASSIFICATION:  INTRICATE EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN III

BASIC PURPOSE:  To supervise the installation, service and maintenance of traffic counting equipment on a regular schedule, and to provide technical assistance in the office as required.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Supervises the installation of automatic traffic recording stations including the installation of inductive loops and solar power devices.

 

·        Supervises subordinates and temporary personnel as assigned.

 

·        Performs maintenance on weigh-in-motion and portable set outs.

 

·        Performs major and minor overhauls on automatic traffic recording equipment and detection devices.

 

·        Maintains inventory of parts needed for equipment repair.

 

·        Assists with other data collection activities as assigned.

 

·        Drives small pick-up truck or equivalent needed for field supervisory duties.

 

·        Provides technical assistance in the office as required.

DISTINGUISHING FACTORS:

 

Skill:  Requires skill in developing formats and procedures for special applications OR in investigating and reviewing the use of equipment and data for a specialized function.

 

Knowledge:  Requires understanding and using business or trades vocabulary or basic arithmetic to perform standard operating procedures.

 

Impact:  Requires responsibility for contributing to agency objectives by ensuring the accuracy of support activities within one or more organizational units.  Errors at this level affect the work of others or have measurable monetary consequences, and require verification and correction in order to complete succeeding work operations.

 

Supervision:  Requires direct supervision of other employees doing work which is related or similar to the supervisor, including scheduling work, recommending leave, reviewing work for accuracy, performance appraisal, or interviewing applicants for position vacancies.

 

Working Conditions:  Requires performing regular job functions in an environment which includes exposure to continuous physical elements or a number of disagreeable working conditions with frequent exposure to minor injuries or health hazards.

 

Physical Demands:  Requires medium to heavy work, including continuous physical exertion such as frequent bending, lifting or climbing.

 

 

 

Communication:  Requires obtaining and exchanging information, referring inquiries to the appropriate source, or responding to questions from state employees or members of the general public.

 

Complexity:  Requires a combination of job functions to establish facts, to draw daily operational conclusions, or to solve practical problems.  This level also requires providing a variety of alternative solutions where only limited standardization exists.

 

Independent Action:  Requires making a limited number of choices in selecting among alternative courses of action under supervisory guidance and in performing job functions according to a variety of prescribed policies or procedures.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:  Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or it's equivalent.

 

Experience:  Four years' experience as an Intricate Equipment Technician, two of which shall have been in field and shop repair of complex electro-mechanical equipment.

 

License/Certification:  Possession of a valid New Hampshire driver's license and/or access to transportation for statewide travel.

 

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:  Knowledge of the fundamentals of electricity.  Knowledge of personal computer basics.  Knowledge of national and local electrical codes.  Knowledge of printed circuit boards.  Skill in the use of tools, equipment and materials used in complex equipment installation and repair.  Ability to maintain accurate records and submit recommendations for equipment replacement.  Ability to supervise subordinates.  Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
