BASIC PURPOSE: To assist the Ski School Director in
all supervising phases of ski school operations.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists the Ski
School Director in planning and establishing budgets and ski school programs.
·
Assists the Director
in establishing ski school policies and monitors the enforcement of these
policies among both employees and students.
·
Coordinates and
supervises ski school programs such as group and private lessons, children's
programs, and racing; provides instruction to ski school staff to ensure
program success.
·
Resolves problems
that may arise during the operation of the ski school, including personnel
problems concerning employees of the ski school.
·
Ensures that racing
areas and equipment are in place and properly maintained.
·
Constructs teaching
aids and terrain features to assist in the ski school operation.
·
Performs a variety of
other duties such as operating a shuttle bus, giving skiing lessons as
necessary, and performs other administrative functions as assigned by the Ski
School Director.

DISTINGUISHING FACTORS:
Skill: Requires skill in developing formats
and procedures for special applications OR in investigating and reviewing the
use of equipment and data for a specialized function.
Knowledge: Requires understanding and using
business or trades vocabulary or basic arithmetic to perform standard operating
procedures.
Impact: Requires responsibility for
contributing to agency objectives by ensuring the accuracy of support
activities within one or more organizational units. Errors at this level affect the work of others or have
measurable monetary consequences, and require verification and correction in
order to complete succeeding work operations.
Supervision: Requires direct supervision of other
employees doing work which is related or similar to the supervisor, including
scheduling work, recommending leave, reviewing work for accuracy, performance
appraisal, or interviewing applicants for position vacancies.
Working Conditions: Requires performing regular job
functions in an adverse working environment containing a combination of
disagreeable elements which impact significantly upon the employee's capacity
for completing work assignments.
This level includes work-related accidents or assault.
Physical Demands: Requires medium to heavy work,
including continuous physical exertion such as frequent bending, lifting or climbing.
Communication: Requires explaining facts, interpreting
situations, or advising individuals of alternative or appropriate courses of
action. This level also requires
interviewing or eliciting information from state employees or members of the
general public.
Complexity: Requires a combination of job functions
to establish facts, to draw daily operational conclusions, or to solve
practical problems. This level
also requires providing a variety of alternative solutions where only limited
standardization exists.
Independent Action: Requires a range of choice in applying
a number of technical or administrative policies under general direction and in
making routine decisions or in recommending modifications in work procedures
for approval by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or
its equivalent.
Experience: Three years' experience in teaching all
levels of skiers in a recognized ski area school, with some experience as ski
school group leader. Snowboarding
experience is preferred but not required.
License/Certification: Must be fully certified by the
Professional Ski Instructors of America and must have attended PSIA Ski School
Directors' Clinic within the past two years.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of the operation of a ski
school associated with a ski area.
Some knowledge of administrative principles and practices. Some knowledge of the principles of
effective supervision. Some
knowledge of budgeting and procurement procedures as related to the operation
of a ski school. Ability to meet
the public and explain ski school programs and regulations in a courteous
manner. Ability to train ski
school instructors as to the correct methods of providing training to all
levels of skiers. Ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and
school participants. Must be
willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and
responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
