CLASSIFICATION:  AERIAL LIFT MECHANIC II

BASIC PURPOSE:  To train and assign staff in performing skilled and semi-skilled mechanical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of aerial and surface type ski-lifts and general park maintenance.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Establishes maintenance and repair programs for aerial lifts and surface ski-lifts and maintains lift service and repair costs.

 

·        Schedules and trains ski and aerial lift staff in functions of chair lifts and safety operations.

 

·        Prepares initial budget for lift operations including staffing and maintenance costs.

 

·        Prepares service and repair budgets and tracks costs.

 

·        Assists other department heads in planning and carrying out repair projects.

 

·        Climbs aerial lift towers to inspect equipment for maintenance needs.

DISTINGUISHING FACTORS:

 

Skill:  Requires skill in recommending routine changes in standardized operating procedures OR in retrieving, compiling and reporting data according to established procedures OR in operating complex machines.

 

Knowledge:  Requires knowledge of business practices and procedures or technical training in a craft or trade, including working from detailed instructions, to apply knowledge in a variety of practical situations.

 

Impact:  Requires responsibility for contributing to immediate, ongoing agency objectives by facilitating the direct provision of services to the public or other state agencies.  Errors at this level result in inaccurate reports or invalid test results and require significant investment of time and resources to detect.

 

Supervision:  Requires partial supervision of other employees doing work which is related or similar to the supervisor, including assigning job duties, providing training, giving instructions and checking work.

 

Working Conditions:  Requires performing regular job functions in an adverse working environment containing a combination of disagreeable elements which impact significantly upon the employee's capacity for completing work assignments.  This level includes work-related accidents or assault.

 

Physical Demands:  Requires medium to heavy work, including continuous physical exertion such as frequent bending, lifting or climbing.

 

 

 

Communication:  Requires explaining facts, interpreting situations, or advising individuals of alternative or appropriate courses of action.  This level also requires interviewing or eliciting information from state employees or members of the general public.

 

Complexity:  Requires a combination of job functions to establish facts, to draw daily operational conclusions, or to solve practical problems.  This level also requires providing a variety of alternative solutions where only limited standardization exists.

 

Independent Action:  Requires independent judgment in planning and evaluating work procedures and in supervising the development of professional, technical and managerial standards under administrative direction and according to broad departmental guidelines.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:  Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or its equivalent and completion of apprenticeship training or its equivalent in one of the trades such as carpentry, electrical, rigging or machinist work.

 

Experience:  Three years' experience in general maintenance and repair work.

 

License/Certification:  Possession of a valid New Hampshire driver's license and/or access to transportation for statewide travel.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must be able to climb and have no fear of working in high places.

 

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:  Knowledge of various trades such as welding, rigging, mechanics, carpentry and electrical work.  Knowledge of accounting principles and methods.  Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others.  Knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment and methods of the various trades.  Ability to recognize the existence of hazardous conditions and to make such corrections as are necessary.  Ability to follow instructions.  Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationship with other employees and the general public.  Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
