Training and Education
20.1. Expense Reimbursement: Each employee who is selected and authorized by the Employer to participate in any organized training, retraining or staff development program offered by the State during on-duty hours, will be reimbursed for expenses incidental to such training.
20.2. Educational Discount: Any full-time unit employee who has completed one year of continuous full-time service shall be entitled to a fifty percent (50%) discount on the tuition of up to three (3) courses that bear credit per fiscal year (limited to one course per semester) on a space available basis, at any of the state regional community technical colleges.
- Courses, for the purposes of registration, will be made available three (3) days prior to the start of classes.
- The institution offering the course may, at its discretion, cancel the course.
- The institution offering the course shall be the sole determining agent as to whether or not space is available.
- Decisions regarding the availability of space, course cancellations and other administrative decisions are not grievable.
- When payment for a course is being made by the Employer or person(s) other than the employee, or, a course is taken on other than a space available basis; there will be no discount in the tuition.
- An employee is not eligible for this benefit in a semester in which he/she has withdrawn from a credit bearing course.
- This provision shall remain in effect only for the biennium ending June 30, 2009 and nothing in this agreement implies a commitment to continue this discount beyond June 30, 2009.
20.3. Education Schedule Adjustments: The Employer shall allow when practical, for an employee to make adjustments in his/her work schedules to complete previously approved job related courses.
