CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch announced today that he will nominate part-time District Court Judge Peter Bornstein of Berlin to serve on the New Hampshire Superior Court at tomorrow’s Governor and Council meeting. The Executive Council must confirm the nomination.

“In his service on the District Court judge, Peter Bornstein has demonstrated a strong commitment to justice and an in-depth knowledge of the law. He will be a strong addition to the Superior Court,” Gov. John Lynch said.

Bornstein has been a part-time judge in the Gorham, Berlin and Lancaster district courts since 2002. He received his law degree from the College of William & Mary in 1980. In 1981, he joined the law firm of Bergeron, Hanson & Bornstein in Berlin, focusing primarily on civil litigation. Bornstein is currently the firm’s senior partner.

Bornstein has been active in the local community and serves on the Androscoggin Valley Hospital board of directors. He is a former member of the Berlin School Board and New Hampshire Public Defender Office board of directors.

Gov. Lynch nominated Bornstein based on a recommendation by the Judicial Selection Commission. Gov. Lynch created the Judicial Selection Commission to ensure the most comprehensive searches possible for potential judicial candidates.

“The Commission was impressed by Judge Bornstein’s sterling reputation both as a practicing lawyer and a judge, his knowledge and experience with a wide variety of legal issues, his enthusiasm and his extensive community service. He possesses an excellent judicial temperament, is a hard worker, is highly ethical and would be honored to serve the people of New Hampshire as a judge on the Superior Court,” wrote Jill Blackmer and Philip Waystack, co-chairs of the Judicial Selection Commission.
